Application testing and demonstrations

Coating behavior is the hardest thing to predict in this method and the easiest thing to test. Two pipeline coatings of similar thickness behaved completely differently in the same Extrinite test program, which is the whole argument for testing rather than specifying blind.

Coating behavior

The most common question Extrinite gets is “will it remove my coating?” The honest answer is almost always “probably, and here is what we would need to confirm”. A test converts that into a result in a few hours.

Two coatings, one test program

In documented testing, Denso Protal 7200 at 35–43 mils came away readily. SW Duraplate UHS at 50–70 mils was considerably more difficult, and a hard edge left by a previous pull test could not be removed at any power setting tried. Nothing about the thickness predicted that difference.

Demonstrations

Paid, with a clearly scoped deliverable agreed in advance.

What a demonstration includes

  • Parameter development on your substrate and coating
  • Removal result, documented with photographs
  • Profile measurement on the prepared surface
  • An assessment of achievable rate and practicality
  • A written view on whether the method suits the scope

What we need from you

Four things make the test measure the right thing.

  1. 01

    A representative sample

Same substrate, same coating system, same condition as the real asset. A clean lab panel proves nothing about a weathered tank.
  2. 02

The acceptance criterion you have to satisfy

The cleanliness and profile your coating specification or welding procedure requires.
  3. 03

    The constraint that actually matters

Schedule, access, containment restriction, or the fact that blasting is not permitted in that area.
  4. 04

Any hazardous constituents in the coating

Extraction is specified correctly before anything is ablated.

Limits of a demonstration

What a demonstration cannot settle.

A sample result is not a production rate

Field output depends on access, geometry, working position, weather and the hundred interruptions a live site generates.

It is also not a coating performance guarantee

Adhesion and long-term performance belong to your coating manufacturer and your inspector, working to their own data sheet and acceptance criteria.

All questions

Is the demonstration free?

No. Demonstrations are paid, with a clearly scoped deliverable agreed in advance. Extrinite may credit 35% of qualifying paid demonstration fees toward a subsequent project where a purchase order is received within 30 days, subject to the written commercial terms current at the time.

What does a demonstration prove?

Whether the method removes your coating or contaminant from your substrate, what parameters it takes, roughly what rate is achievable, and what the resulting surface looks like. It can also prove the opposite, which is equally useful before you commit a scope.

What does it not prove?

A sample result is not a production rate for a full scope, and it is not an adhesion or coating performance guarantee. Access, geometry, weather and site constraints all change field output.

What do you need from me?

A representative sample (same substrate, same coating system, same condition) or site access for an onsite demonstration. Tell us the acceptance criterion you need to hit so the test measures the right thing.

Book a demonstration

Tell us the coating, the substrate, the condition and what you need to prove. We will scope the test and confirm the commercial terms in writing.
