Operator training

Hands-on, at your site, before the equipment is released for use: system operation, setting parameters for your surface, and the Class 4 laser safety requirements that come with the system. Training typically takes one day, 8 hours, for one to four operators.

System operation

Running the 2,000 W or 3,000 W system from its touch screen.

Power, scan speed, frequency, line width and pattern are all adjustable. Both systems are continuous wave fiber lasers with integrated water cooling and a 100% duty cycle.

Parameters for your application

Parameters determine the result.

The same machine on the same coating can roughen without removing, remove cleanly leaving the profile intact, or put unnecessary heat into the substrate. Settings that work on one substrate and coating will not transfer to another.

Class 4 laser safety

These are Class 4 systems, and training covers the requirements that apply to them.

A controlled work area, appropriate eyewear and PPE for everyone inside it, extraction matched to the material being removed, and hearing protection for a measured 68 dB.

Laser safety training is included in operator training.

Calibration test patch

Extrinite's field procedure calls for a calibration test patch at the start of a job, with the optimal settings recorded before production work begins. Operators are trained to run it themselves.

During production

During production, substrate temperature is monitored and power and speed are adjusted to avoid heat damage. Thin substrates are run at reduced settings.

  1. 01

    Start on the real surface

Run the patch on the substrate and coating you are about to clean, before any production work.
  2. 02

    Adjust the parameters

Power, scan speed, frequency and line width, watching what each change does to the coating and the substrate.
  3. 03

    Record the settings

Write down the settings that give the required result before production starts.
  4. 04

    New surface, new patch

A different coating system or substrate means a new patch.

Power and safety review

Done before delivery. Unknowns at this stage are normal; the review surfaces them early rather than on the day the equipment arrives.

Electrical supply

220 V single phase at 30 A for the 2,000 W; 480 V at 50 A for the 3,000 W.

Available supply, the distance from the panel and any generator arrangement are confirmed before delivery.

Gas and compressed air

Nitrogen, argon or compressed air according to the system's requirements.

Compressed air must be dry and oil free, at 40 psi and 5 cfm.

Operators

Who will run the system, what experience they have, and how many need training before the rental starts.

Site controls

Who approves the work area, what laser controls your site requires, and what extraction is needed.

Extraction is matched to the material being removed. Service leads reach a maximum of 60 ft from the laser source on the 2,000 W and 100 ft on the 3,000 W.

Delivery and setup

Systems ship to sites across the United States. Delivery and pickup are charged by mileage, with a $250 minimum charge. Operator training is delivered on arrival, before the equipment is released for use.

Support during the rental

Technical assistance is part of the rental for its whole length. Questions about settings, results or the equipment go straight to Extrinite by phone or email.

The rental agreement

Costs, maintenance responsibilities and support commitments are governed by the rental agreement.

Office hours
Mon–Fri, 7am–5pm Central
Outside office hours
By phone

If the system develops a fault during the term, Extrinite troubleshoots it with your crew by phone. If it cannot be fixed that way, Extrinite replaces the unit.

Scheduling training

Schedule training before the first production surface. You decide how many operators are trained, and the training fee depends on the site location.

Shift changes and cost

If your crew changes between shifts, raise it at quote stage. The number of operators to be trained, and whether training is repeated for shift changes, is part of the training scope and one of the things that moves the rental cost.

Tell us before delivery

  • Who will run the system
  • What experience they have
  • How many need training before the rental starts
  • Whether training needs repeating for shift changes

Supporting equipment

Where your site cannot supply power or clean air, Extrinite can supply supporting equipment. Availability and rental conditions are confirmed per job.

Industrial nitrogen generators

Available to rent as an option, which can remove the need for bottled gas on site.

Compressed air chillers

Available to rent as an option.

The system's compressed air must be dry and oil free, at 40 psi and 5 cfm.

150 kVA generator setups

Where site power is not available, Extrinite's field configuration uses a 150 kVA generator supplying 480 V.

Generator supply for a rental is arranged per job.

All questions

Is operator training included?

No. Hands-on operator training is available with every rental and charged separately. It is delivered before the equipment is released for use and typically takes one day for one to four operators.

Do we need a laser safety officer?

These are Class 4 lasers, so a controlled area with a designated person responsible for it is appropriate. Extrinite's site-specific safety review before release covers what your facility needs to put in place. Confirm your own facility's requirements with your safety department.

Is delivery included?

No. Delivery and pickup are charged by mileage, with a $250 minimum charge.

What if I need power on site?

Where site power is unavailable, Extrinite's field configuration uses a 150 kVA generator supplying 480 V. Generator supply for a rental is arranged per job.

Can I rent more than one machine?

Yes, subject to availability. Tell us the scope and schedule and we will confirm what can be deployed.

Check rental availability

Tell us the surface, the area, your site power and when you need the equipment. We will confirm which system fits and what is available.
